Inside and Out. {{Ginny, and perhaps Ron?}}
Who: Hermione (me), and Ginny and perhaps Ron?
Where: The Ministry of Magic--Hermione's office
When: Saturday afternoonish

Hermione was in a right state. There she was, in her office, crying like a blubbering baby. And it was all because of... well, everything. She hadn't had a decent conversation with Ginny in ages, not to mention she hadn't heard from ANYONE at all in the past two months. Ron, of course was a different story--part of the reason why she'd been crying in the first place. He'd written her: for the first time since their break up (which had been about a year and a half ago), he'd actually written her.

Strange.

Yes, Hermione knew it was strange. In her hand she clutched the letter that he'd written. *What's funny,* she thought, *is the fact that it sounds as if he's forgotten all that's happened between us.* She wiped away the stray tears that had been trickling down her face and sat up at the knock on her door. "Come in," Hermione said with much grace.

Ginny had gotten off work earlier than she expected and she had the night off from the bar, so she figured she's just drop in on Hermione and see what the old gal was up to. She had been told to wait a moment to see if Hermione was available, but Ginny had told the woman as nicely as she could to stuff it up her arse and walked right on through. After knocking and being summoned in, Ginny pushed the door open and automatically froze before fully crossing the threshold. What was going on?! "Hermione!" Ginny said, an amazed look on her face. Was this what Hermione spent her days doing? Crying in her office? She looked over her should to mak sure no one had noticed and hurried in the room and then shutting the door behind her. She tossed her bag in a chair and went over to her friend. "What's up?" she said, placing an arm around Hermione. She saw the parchment clutched in Hermione's hand. She had actually mistaken it for a tissue when she stood at the door, but she knew what it was now. "Oh, Hermione." She said softly, resting her cheek to her friend's shoulder.

Hermione hadn't wanted Ginny to see her like that--pathetic--but what could she've done? Thrown her out? She was her best friend. "Nothing's up," Hermione said in a voice that squeaked of new tears. "Nothing, I swear." She bit her lower lip in a usual fashion and felt Ginny's arm around her. "I'm not looking particularly great today."

Of course, Hermione knew that she didn't look good on any day. "I'm fine, honestly," she said, throwing off her depressed mode--to make Ginny stop feeling sorry for her--and scratched her head. There was nothing more annoying to Hermione Jane Granger than someone crying and getting sympathy for it. "What are you doing here?"

"Liar." Ginny said simply. She straightened up, though. Slightly peeved that Hermione still felt the need to lie to her best friend and about her own brother no less. Ginny took a seat across from Hermione's desk and crossed her legs. She rolled her eyes. "You're lucky I have enough self-control at the moment or I'd slap you. You look fine." Ginny didn't know why if Hermione hated sympathy she always made some silly comment about her not looking great or some other rubbish. "I'm here because...well, I haven't seen you in a weeks and I have nothing better to do than bug you. I don't work tonight. So I'm going to have hours and hours of free time." Ginny laughed softly, "I'm so glad you're happy I stopped by." She leaned forward, "So...how long have you been weeping in your office? Since Ron sent you that letter or before?" She was determined to Weasel, yes, weasel, this out of Hermione.

Hermione cheered up slightly at Ginny's sarcastic remarks. It was always pleasant to have the youngest Weasley come and visit her--everything was possible with her around. "I've missed you, Ginny," Hermione said quietly as she straightened her robes and brushed her hair from her face (which, incidentally, did NOTHING; Hermione's hair was still as bushy as ever and could never be tamed). "And how long have I been weeping? Probably before... it just took Ron's letter to get me going again." She smiled half-heartedly and clenched the letter tighter in her fist.

Oh, she hated men. Especially ones with red hair, freckles, and the initials Ronald Bilius Weasley.

Ginny sighed, letting out some of her frustrations she had been concentrating at her friend the moment before. She smiled, "I've missed you too, Hermione." Ginny watched as Hermione rearraged herself and she smiled wider. Hermione was so beautiful. Ginny tucked back a bit of her own hair and made a face. "I see. Well, I'm sorry. I wish he would just grow up and stop doing these things to you. You don't deserve them." Ginny had never really wondered if her brother and Hermione weren't meant to be together. There had never been any doubt in her mind. They were so different, yet the same. They completed each other. Now, though, Ginny wanted Hermione to be happy and Ron just wasn't cutting it. Ginny looked around the office. "You know, I don't even think I've been here more than twice? That's just so sad."

Hermione nodded and listened to Ginny talk on about how Ron wasn't worth her time and what not. Truth be told, she had started to think the same think. Perhaps she and Ron were just not meant to be together in that way? Perhaps Hermione was just dwelling on the past, and by doing so, it was weighing her down. She looked up at Ginny and grinned. "Twice? I could've sworn you've only been her a momentary three times," she responded.

Hermione didn't know when she'd gotten it, but her sarcastic streak had kicked in lately when she was feeling poorly. "I don't know why I haven't made an effort for you to come and visit--I suppose my workaholic state has inhibited me from doing so." Hermione stared up at her best friend and scowled.

Ginny laughed and glared playfully at Hermione. "Well, okay, now I've been here three times. Ms. Know-It-All! Goodness, I wish I was as smart as you Hermione. Maybe then I would have amounted to more than a Mediwitch and a barmaid." Ginny continued to smile since she didn't necessarily see her chosen professions as bad, they just weren't as good as Hermione's. "Probably." Ginny agreed with Hermione on the whole workaholic thing. She didn't mind, though. If working harder than hard made Hermione feel better...or something...since she wouldn't be crying if she felt better, than so be it. She can deal. "Hmmm, are we going to sit in here or are we going to leave? It's a nice day outside. A bit chilly, but nice."

Hermione grinned broadly. "You are just as clever as I am, Ginny. Don't even try to deny it, because you know what I say is true. A Mediwitch and a barmaid... it's a hell of a lot better than what I have amounted to. Books and paperwork. Oh, joy." She rolled her eyes and tapped her quill on her desk. "I dunno anymore. This whole--Ron thing--has gotten me all rattled and out of sorts. Not something I'm used to."

Hermione sighed and stood up. "I don't know if I'm allowed to leave right now... but... well, alright. Where do you want to go?" She was puzzled as to where they could go.

Ginny shook her head, "No! You could open up your own business or something. You could do so many things, Hermione. You're just not being daring enough. My jobs are better for play, yes, but yours are more...well, stable and you. I guess that means my jobs are more me. Running around all day, helping people get out of the strangest situations, and being called in at any time of the day or night. It's very unstable. As for being a barmaid, fun, it is, but...well, if my mother knew." Ginny smiled sadly. She couldn't, though. Ginny nodded, coming back to the present moment. "Yeah, I understand. It's alright. I mean, it's normal and natural. Don't work against it, it may be a part of the healing process." Ginny didn't know if that was correct. After all, Hermione couldn't let go, but maybe she would in time if things weren't to work out. Ginny watched as Hermione stood up. She stretched and stood up as well, "Psh, you're practically the head hancho around here. You should be able to leave whenever." Ginny shrugged, "I don't know. The park? Are you hungry? Anywhere's fine."

Hermione hated the fact that Ginny had to deal with so much death in her life: Harry, Mrs. Weasley... and all of the others. It was heart-wrenching. Hermione couldn't do anything, though. She felt the same loss. "Oh, pish tosh, Ginny. You're jobs are so care-free and just full of so many different things all at once. Mine? Well.. boring, to say the least." She grabbed her coat from the closet and slipped her arms into it.

"The head hancho?" Hermione giggled, shoving Ron's letter into the front pocket. "Oh, please. But the park does sound rather good." She put her arm around Ginny's shoulders and grinned. "Lead the way."

"Then get a different job, Hermione." Ginny ran her hands through her hair. It was a little tangled from the gusts out there. "Like I said, you can do anything. Even stripping in a muggle club, if it fancied you. Although, I really don't recommend doing a job that even I wouldn't do." She grinned and leaned into Hermione for a second before grabbing her hand and pulling her from the office.

"GINNY, WHERE ARE WE GOING?" Hermione shouted hurridley as she followed Ginny out of her office. Several people stared at her and she waved dismissively at them and felt herself being pulled out of the doors. "Ginny, you're right. I think I need a new job. Did you see everyone stare at me with that expression of... of... well, disgust?"

Hermione frowned and felt her stomach growl. "And I'm hungry."

"To the park!" Ginny shouted back happily before she laughed as the people in Hermione's division gave them looks of utter contempt. "My, my, you work with a load of bores! You definitely need to get out. You could join me at the bar at night, if you like. It's fun. It will do you good. Besides, I could always use another pair of eyes. It's such>/i> an important mission, you know." Ginny smiled to herself. Oh, she was funny. "Alright...detour! Food first, then walk in the park to work it off." They had entered the elevator up and now they were smack dab in Muggle London. "What are you craving? This is about you, so you make the decisions."

"About me?" Hermione questioned as she gave Ginny a look. She shoved her hands in her coat pockets and in the one, she clutched Ron's letter again. "What do you mean, about me? I have no earthly idea why this is about me?" She glanced around at muggle London and bit her lower lip. "Erm... and you know? I think I'll take you up on that bar offer. Imagine--me, Hermione... working at a bar. Ron'll have a cow."

And she laughed.

"I simply mean that this whole outing to make YOU feel better, not me. So you can do whatever you please. Eat whatever you want. I'll pay. You just enjoy yourself." Ginny laughed, "Alright, I'll put a good word in for you when you show up for an interview. Make sure to wear something a little...revealing. They'll love that." Ginny shushed Hermione, "No speaking of him. Although, I will agree. He'd have more than just one cow, mind." She giggled too.
